Women, teens get day of advice

To coincide with International Women's Day, Winn Army Community Hospital's Department of Preventative Medicine held a women's and teens Lunch and Learn health event March 8 at the Fort Stewart Youth Center. On a day set aside to celebrate women, the event offered women and girls the opportunity to educate themselves on important health topics and learn about self-defense and meditation.

Annual food drive wraps up this weekend

Curves International's 15th annual food drive, "Feed the Need," which challenges Curves' club members in the United States and Canada to meet a goal of 100,000 donations, ends Saturday. Each club, including Curves in Hinesville and Richmond Hill, is accepting donations of non-perishable food or cash to support local food banks. In addition, Curves will waive the joining fee for new members who bring in a bag of non-perishable food or donate $30 to a local food bank during the drive.

LCHS students certified in first aid

Students in Dr. Jana Shields' health, safety and nutrition class at Liberty County High School recently were certified in first aid and CPR. Fourteen students participated in a daylong training session with firefighter Casey Hale.

Komen affiliate honors Hinesville woman

"Imagine life without breast cancer" is the motto of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those battling breast cancer and working to raise funds for research to cure the disease. Thanks to the Coastal Georgia affiliate of Susan G. Komen, Hinesville resident and certified nursing assistant Theresa Gilchrist can imagine life without breast cancer.

Winn challenges community to get healthy

Don't get stuck in a diet rut

Our family was stuck in a diet slump. Because my husband and I both have such hectic work schedules, we got into a rut over the years, eating a lot of processed convenience foods. 24Seven Family Fitness coming

Motorcyclists ride for seriously ill woman

Area motorcyclists gathered Saturday for a "Riding for Morgan" charity run to help raise funds for a seriously ill Hinesville native, Morgan Smith Rogers. Despite overcast skies and blustery conditions, the ride brought around 50 riders and raised $1,000 to assist Rogers's family with mounting medical costs.
