Safety tips offered on Fire Prevention Week

The Hinesville Fire Department recently joined with the National Fire Protection Association for Fire Prevention Week to remind residents of fire safety. From Oct. 6-12, the fire department provided information to residents about the dangers of kitchen fires and taught them how to prevent fires in their homes.

Baking bread at home is option

I have had a love affair with bread for just about as long as I can remember. I recall many childhood meals where my parents had to cut me off from eating any more rolls so that I wouldn't spoil my dinner. There just isn't anything better than warm, crusty bread with butter to accompany a great meal.

Students benefit from 'mean' teachers

The most valuable course I took in high school was typing. I took two semesters of it my sophomore year at Proviso West High School in Hillside, Ill. By the end of the second semester, I was typing between 60 and 70 words per minute on a manual typewriter.

Walk to Stop Diabetes is Saturday

Woman suffers from tumors, asks for help

Kathrine Patterson has been a fighter her whole life. The Hinesville resident grew up orphaned. She had six children and endured the loss of one. Today, Patterson, 42, still is fighting, but it's to save her own life. She has two meningioma tumors growing on her brain.

More than 100 race to benefit children

The city of Walthourville recently was selected by the Georgia Municipal Association to receive an Employee Health Promotion and Wellness Incentive Grant. The grants are awarded statewide to promote worksite programs designed to enhance the health and wellness of city employees and family members.

Stewart Refill Pharmacy expands coverage

Beginning Monday, Oct. 7, the Fort Stewart PX Refill Pharmacy will fill all new prescriptions from civilian providers in addition to continuing to serve as the primary refill prescription pick-up location. This change should decrease customers' wait time at the Winn Army Community Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy, which will continue filling prescriptions for patients seen at Winn ACH.

Mobile clinic offers mammograms in Ludowici

BRUNSWICK - The Southeast Georgia Health System Wellness on Wheels (WOW) mobile health vehicle will provide screenings at several area locations in October. All mammograms require a physician's order. Insurance is accepted, and financial assistance is available to patients who qualify.
