Area Agency on Aging gets new lab

The Coastal Area Agency on Aging, in partnership with Georgia Tech's Tools for Life Program, recently announced the grand opening of Coastal Ability Solutions, an assistive-technology lab serving Coastal Georgia. The project was funded by the Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services and is Georgia's first assistive-technology lab housed at a regional commission.

Remission brightens girl's prospects

Dec. 21 will mark two years since 9-year-old Saniyah Joseph was stricken with aplastic anemia, a disease that affects her bone marrow functions. The condition kept Saniyah from living her life like a normal child. She often felt tired and had to undergo blood treatments. Today, her doctors consider her to be in remission, and she is back to enjoying life like a healthy 9-year-old.

Day raises diabetes awareness in Long

The first Long County Diabetes Awareness Day was held Nov. 8 at the recreation park in Ludowici. With a large crowd in attendance, $10,296 was raised, according to event coordinator Walt Pelton.
