Ceremony marks departure of division

3rd Infantry Division Commanding General Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch and Division Command Sgt. Maj. Jesse L. Andrews case the division's colors in a ceremony Thursday marking the departure of the division headquarters. Lynch, Andrews and more than 1,000 headquarters troops will deploy to Iraq beginning next week on a historical third deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Third Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch said the division is moving in all directions at an incredible pace.

So, Thursday, the division will pause to pray, case the division colors and dance in the streets just before the impending deployment of more than 1,000 soldiers of the division's headquarters late next week. Area residents are invited to come together to bid farewell to the division headquarters.
