Pentagon announces next deployments

WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon on Monday announced upcoming deployments of more than 42,000 troops, including 25,000 active duty Army soldiers who would be sent to Iraq beginning in the fall to replace troops scheduled to come home by year's end.

Female soldier dies in Iraq

The Department of Defense announced over the weekend the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. Mary J. Jaenichen, 20, of Temecula, Calif., died May 9 in Iskandariyah, Iraq, of a non-combat related injury. She was assigned to the Brigade Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. Jaenichen was a military police officer. She joined the Army in June 2006 and arrived at Fort Stewart in January 2007.
