President says troops will not be sent to Iraq

WASHINGTON -- Citing the "huge investments and sacrifices" Americans have made in Iraq, President Barack Obama said today that he has asked his national security team to prepare a range of options to help Iraqi security forces stop rapidly advancing Sunni insurgents who have overrun much of the country's north, control most of Anbar province and are now threatening the capital, Baghdad.

Stewart to get solar power array

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Army announced plans Thursday to develop three 30-megawatt, alternating-current, solar photovoltaic arrays - one each for Forts Stewart, Gordon and Benning. The projects are projected to bring the U.S. Army 9 percent closer to its commitment of President Barack Obama of deploying 1 gigawatt of renewable energy by 2025.

The Department of Defense announced Tuesday that the 3rd Infantry Division Headquarters will deploy to Afghanistan next month to assume their role as the U.S. Forces Afghanistan National Security Element. The deployment will include a supporting element in Qatar and a liaison in Kuwait. Approximately 200 Soldiers are scheduled for the 12-month deployment in support of the Resolute Support Mission.
