Lt. Gen. William Webster joins STC board

Former 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield commander retired Lt. Gen. William G. Webster Jr. was sworn in as a member of the Savannah Technical College Board of Directors at a recent meeting by Liberty County Probate Court Judge Nancy K. Aspinwall. He was appointed to serve on the STC board of directors by the Technical College System of Georgia state board. Webster led the 3rd ID from 2003-06. For the past year, he has served as one of two senior mentors for the US War College, and worked for the Chief of Staff, US Army.

Bush era VA secretary visits here

Local area veterans of the American Legion Post No. 168 in Hinesville had a pleasant surprise as they gathered for breakfast at their monthly meeting Saturday morning. The former secretary of Veterans Affairs under both Bush administrations, Anthony Principi, and 1st Congressional District candidate Dr. Bob Johnson were on hand to have coffee and doughnuts and speak with the vets.

More than 400 veterans with traumatic brain injuries, spinal-cord injuries, amputations and other injuries participated in the 28th annual National Disabled Veterans Sports Clinic on March 29-April 4 in Snowmass, Colo. Former 3rd Infantry Division soldier Sgt. Kristian Cedeno was among the disabled vets learning downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and other sports, including scuba diving, rock climbing and wheelchair self-defense.

Marne commander leads deployment

Soldiers from 3rd ID Headquarters, Fort Stewart to deploy

The Department of Defense announced Tuesday that the 3rd Infantry Division Headquarters will deploy to Afghanistan next month to assume their role as the U.S. Forces Afghanistan National Security Element. The deployment will include a supporting element in Qatar and a liaison in Kuwait. Approximately 200 Soldiers are scheduled for the 12-month deployment in support of the Resolute Support Mission.
