A good man needs help

I'll keep this brief. I stumbled across a gofundme page late Wednesday set up for longtime Bryan County firefighter Otis Willis, who is suffering from cancer. He also worked with the Liberty County Fire Service and, 20 years ago, Willis was with the Lake George Fire Department and, for a brief time, tried to get a volunteer department going in Fleming.

‘Eat the rainbow’ is healthy advice

Has anyone ever told you that "carrots are good for your eyes" or "if you want to be big and strong then you'd better eat your greens?" Surely, we've all heard how "an apple a day will keep the doctor away."

Green up the area with native plants

We've talked to her, reassured her, and so on, but nothing has worked. She's becoming a wreck, and so am I. Should I take her to a counselor? If ...

Irma, swales and pancakes

Thanks to Irma, I got two days off this week to work on our house, which flooded a bit, and our backyard, which may have been at least partly to blame.

Reflections on Irma's lessons

It is hard to know what to write about when you have been through the likes of Irma. Maybe it was "only" a tropical storm when it hit Georgia and not the powerful hurricane that ripped through Florida, but it was bad enough as many of you can attest. I will return to my acerbic roots soon, I promise, but not today. Nothing funny about disasters.
