The war has been over 152 years, y'all

My son, a learned philosopher, says of an impending competition between two football teams he particularly dislikes: "May they play a zero-zero tie in the mud." He made that observation before football became an indoor sport and added as many overtimes as necessary to break a tie and expose us to more beer commercials. Still, his point is a good one.

Young ‘thief’ needs to learn value of things others own

Q: We've just been informed that our 7-year-old son has been effectively "expelled" from the private school he attended last year because of repeated instances of stealing small items from classmates and, on one occasion, from the teacher's desk. We're rather shocked because our son was the highest-performing student in his first-grade class and the school's administration promised to work with us concerning the problem. Through the school year, he stole at least 20 items from other children, things like pencils, pencil sharpeners, and several of these new toys called "spinners." He's an only child ...

Spaceports have not worked, neither would Camden's

Editor: Some writers and elected officials have extolled the virtues of spaceports as if they were general manufacturing industries producing industrial or consumer products. Editor missed point of previous letter

Editor: This is in response to your staff column on July 9. I am afraid that you missed the point of my letter of July 5. The subject of my letter was to bring to light how inefficient and uninformed Midway's city council and mayor are. I compared Midway to Pooler to show that Pooler has professionals on their city council, while Midway has a mayor and city council with absolutely no concept of how to handle money, develop needed businesses and plan for the future.
