MMS students honored for excellence

On Jan. 21, Midway Middle School recognized students who excelled academically for the second nine-week grading period. There were 17 students on the "A" honor roll and 160 students on the "A/B" honor roll. The Rev. Doug Walker, pastor of Midway United Methodist Church, talked to students during the ceremony about being grateful for the educators who assist them with their scholastic achievements.

MMS debuts social studies media projects

Nancy Probst's sixth-grade social studies class at Midway Middle School worked throughout January on multi-tiered projects. After doing in-class lessons and watching videos about the Cuban Revolution and the Zapatista movement in Mexico, students met in the media center with media specialist Cristina Dover to review research methods. They researched and put together news scripts on their chosen topics.

BI FBLA students compete at conference

On Jan. 20, Bradwell Institute Future Business Leaders of America members traveled to Altamaha Technical College in Jesup for the FBLA Region 3 Leadership Conference. Competitive events consisted of online testing and/or performance events. Bradwell Institute members earned 12 Region 3 awards; seven students advanced to the FBLA State Leadership Conference, which will be March 17-20 in Atlanta.

Long students play with AASU Orchestra

Walker Middle School students Halayna Klassen and Emily Carden recently were chosen to play with the Armstrong Atlantic Youth Orchestra in Savannah. WMS band director Myron Grimes said the two eighth-graders were selected from a group of 120 students.
