The Hinesville branch of the Live Oak Public Library will have a winter reading program through Dec. 31 for children ages 0-18. To participate, pick up a winter reading record at any branch of Live Oak Public Libraries, including the Hinesville Library and Midway-Riceboro branches. The grounds of Lyman Hall Elementary on Thursday night were packed tighter than a mall parking lot on Black Friday as parents and children huddled for warmth near the school's entrance in anticipation of the annual Christmas Ornament Extravaganza.

Liberty County High School made a donation of food and money to the Liberty County Manna House to help feed families who normally would go without a Thanksgiving dinner. LCHS Principal Paula Scott encouraged students and teachers to donate to the Manna House. The JROTC program spearheaded the fundraiser along with the Rural Entrepreneurship through Action Learning Entrepreneurial Ventures (Real) Club in collecting the school's donations of money and food.
Walker Middle School FBLA members participated in the second annual "Warm a Life" campaign this year. The students collected new and used blankets to hand out to local homeless people and shelters. They partnered with Mark Cooper of Factor's Cottage, Inc., who first encouraged the club to help him with his annual blanket drive. Last year, the club donated about 60 blankets. This year, the club exceeded its previous total and donated more than 90 blankets and 60 jackets to help warm the lives of others at Christmas. The blankets will be handed out on Christmas Eve.
