TCE students recycle to help shelter

For the past nine years, the students at Taylors Creek Elementary have collected soda tabs to raise money for the Liberty Humane Shelter. This year, students collected 52 and a half gallons of tabs. Sherry Townsend's class collected the most tabs and won a pizza party.

Early Head Start to open in Liberty

Coastal GA Area CAA, Inc. has announced that the Early Head Start program will soon open in the Hinesville/Liberty County area. Liberty County Early Head Start allows infants and toddlers ages 6 weeks to 36 months to grow and learn in a nurturing environment. Children with disabilities are welcome.

AASU honors multicultural students

SAVANNAH - Armstrong Atlantic State University's Office of Multicultural Affairs hosted its 2010 MACAS awards ceremony April 11 to recognize academic excellence among AASU minority students. Some 580 students were honored during the ceremony in the AASU Fine Arts Auditorium.

Regents approve tuition hikes up to 16%

ATLANTA - Georgia college students will pay up to $1,000 more in tuition in the coming school year under hikes passed by the state Board of Regents on Tuesday, a move that comes amid one of the worst state fiscal crises in recent history.

The tuition increases for the state's 35 public colleges and universities hit hardest at research universities: Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. Many students will pay $3,535 per semester, a 16 percent increase over last fall.

Regents voting on tuition hike

ATLANTA - Georgia college students likely will find out Tuesday how much more they'll have to shell out for tuition this fall.

The Georgia Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on tuition hikes for the state's 35 public colleges and universities. The vote comes after lawmakers cut hundreds of millions from higher education coffers to help balance the books amid one of the worst state fiscal crises in recent history.
