Midway resident awarded PAGE scholarship

Midway resident Sarah Elizabeth Trawick is the recipient of a student Professional Association of Georgia Educators Undergraduate Scholarship, awarded each year through the Professional Association of Georgia Educators Foundation.

Thomas visits Lewis Frasier Middle School

Lewis Frasier Middle School recently received a visit from Kim Thomas, the chief financial officer for the city of Hinesville. Thomas spoke to eighth grade math students in Stacy Brown's first through fourth period classes. She is a former student of the Liberty County School System. The school staff and students appreciated her for being a good role model who is giving back to her community and to the school system that prepared her for success.

Midway Middle School students, faculty and staff paid tribute to U.S. veterans during a Veterans Day program Nov. 9. The theme for this year's program was, "Lest We Forget."

Red Ribbon Week at Walker Middle

Students at Walker Middle School in Ludowici collected canned goods for the Long County's Community Food Bank. Using the theme "I 'Can' Fight Against Drugs" during Red Ribbon Week, students wore camouflage and brought canned goods to school. The students collected 462 items. April Smith's seventh-grade homeroom won a pizza party for collecting the most cans, 52.

Governor's Water Conservation Contest for elementary students

To help some of Georgia's youngest residents understand the importance of preserving water, Gov. Sonny Perdue announced the new Governor's Water Conservation Contest to encourage elementary students to think of creative ways to conserve water by designing a plan that promotes conservation.

GED testing set for dec. 3-4

GED tests will be given at Altamaha Technical College - Jesup Campus from 5-9 p.m. Dec. 3-4. Registration for testing must be done in person in Room 302-B on Monday (8 a.m. to noon), Tuesday (8 a.m. to noon) or Wednesday (8 a.m. to noon or 5-7 p.m.).

Atlanta - Secretary of State Karen Handel has announced the kickoff of the "Georgia Votes" high school voter registration drive. The Secretary of State's Elections Division is partnering with high schools throughout the state to increase awareness about registering to vote and the voting process.
