Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., announced last week that 23 students in the First Congressional District of Georgia, including two students in Liberty County, have received nominations to United States service academies. SAVANNAH -- Armstrong Atlantic State University's fall enrollment has reached yet another record high of 7,682 total number of students enrolled, an increase of nearly two percent from the fall 2009 count of 7,538. Undergraduate enrollment saw an increase of 4.6 percent, from 6,612 to 6,918 for the same period of time.
SAVANNAH - Beginning in January, Savannah Technical College will offer a new technical certificate of credit in the drafting department. The new program, CAD Operator, will be offered mostly online and will allow students hands-on training with AutoCAD. It covers basic drafting and AutoCAD commands as well as all types of fastener drawings (welding symbols, bolts and screws) and auxiliary drawing, which allows the object to be seen in different views.
The Midway Middle School Builders Club, an affiliate of the Kiwanis Club of Liberty County, held its sixth annual Trick-or-Treating for Canned Goods event at the school Oct. 26-29. The students collected 1,094 items to be donated to Manna House in conjunction with Georgia Power's canned food drive.
Lewis Frasier Middle School National Junior Honor Society adviser Jereice Campbell presented a $1,500 check to the Wreaths for Warriors Walk committee on Nov. 2. The wreaths purchased with the money will be among those placed at the base of 436 eastern redbud trees at Fort Stewart's Warriors Walk during a ceremony at noon on Saturday, Dec. 11.

Smiley Elementary School students will tag along in spirit on a space voyage when the space shuttle Discovery lifts off. The shuttle had been scheduled to launch Friday, but its final planned mission has been delayed several times and, according to a NASA statement issued Friday afternoon, the earliest that Discovery can now launch following repairs to its leaky ground umbilical carrier plate is Monday.
On Oct. 22, 10 Bradwell Institute graphic communication students attended the Heidelberg Print Media Academy in Kennesaw to participate in the first-ever "Fit to Print" event. Heidelberg's North American office in Kennesaw is the largest demonstration and instructional facility in the United States and second world-wide only to Heidelberg, Germany.
