Lions Club donates tissues, sanitzer

The Hinesville Lions Club recently presented tissues and hand sanitizer to Taylors Creek Elementary School. Faculty reported that enough was delivered so each classroom got the items and that teachers were excited to receive two of the most used items.

SAT scores drop for third year in state

ATLANTA - Georgia high school students performed worse on the SAT college-entrance exam than their predecessors for the third year in a row, continuing to lag behind the nation.

Georgia's average score on the test was 1,460 this year, a six-point drop since last year, according to data released Tuesday by the exam's administrators, the College Board. The national average score was 1,509 this year.

Georgia students improve ACT scores

ATLANTA - The percentage of U.S. high school graduates meeting all four of ACT's College Readiness Benchmarks increased slightly in 2009 as the pool of students taking the preparatory test continued to expand.

The not-for-profit ACT's newly released annual grad class report on college readiness found the percentage of graduates ready to earn at least a "C'' or higher in first-year college courses in all four subject areas tested on the ACT - English, math, reading and science - increased from 22 percent in 2008 to 23 percent in 2009.
