Liberty High celebrates grads accomplishments

Liberty County High School graduated 240 seniors Saturday night in a commencement ceremony at Donell Woods Stadium.

Long Co. High bids farewell to 134

Long County High School held its graduation ceremony Friday, proffering diplomas to 134 seniors. Class Secretary Karena Espey gave the invocation followed by a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, led by class parliamentarian Brandon Abbot.

Day care has graduation

The Heavenly Angel Daycare had its first graduation ceremony on May 16. Four 4-year-olds marched across the field and received certificates from the Liberty County Commissioner Marion Stevens Sr.

Retired teachers present scholarship

Harmony Wallace, who is a Bradwell Institute senior, has earned this year's Liberty/Long Retired Educators' scholarship. Wallace plans to major in early childhood education at Georgia Southern University. She is the daughter of Franklin and Linda Wallace.

Farm Day held in Long County

Last week, the annual Farm Day Celebration was held in Long County. Farmers and agricultural staff brought in their equipment and livestock to show local students the importance of the agricultural industry. This year, exhibits included forestry, fur trapping, livestock and large equipment. One of the children's favorite displays was an "old-time" cornhusking demonstration. Long Middle FBLA has book drive for Halloween

During October, Long County Middle School FBLA students participated in a book drive. Each member brought in used books to donate to children in the area, and over 100 books were donated. On Oct. 30, the club ended the drive with a Halloween social and costume contest. Members came in costume and brought Halloween treats to share. Guest judges chose the costume-contest winners, and cash prizes were given.

High-school graduation rate up in Liberty

The Liberty County School System's high-school graduation rate has increased since last year, rising from 72.3 percent in 2013 to 75.8 percent in 2014. The graduation rate at Bradwell Institute held steady at 72.4 percent, while the graduation rate at Liberty County High School made a statistically significant gain of 8.7 percentage points, rising to 81.6 percent.
