Christmas trees get new life as mulch

Keep Liberty County Beautiful's Bring One For The Chipper ended Saturday with more than 750 trees being recycled in Liberty County. KLCB Director Sara Swida estimated roughly 10,000 pounds of mulch were made from the weeklong collection effort.

'Casual' day benefits state school for blind

JOHN'S CREEK - Last year, Gov. Sonny Purdue, issued a proclamation in support of Georgia Casual Week to increase awareness and support for the Georgia Academy for the Blind Student Fund. By his proclamation, Perdue encouraged Georgia's business community to support the academy's mission of creating independent, productive future Georgia workers by encouraging and allowing employee participation in a casual week.

Gabriel House gets donation

Lockheed Martin – Readiness and Stability Operations employees at Fort Stewart donated $295 to Gabriel's House in Hinesville this week. "We ask local retailers to donate items to our annual banquet held each December and we raffle off the prizes. The money raised goes to local charities," said Mike Passmore, RSO site maintenance manager. Passmore said Lockheed Martin employs 700 people in the area. The group will also make a donation to Manna House.

Each year during the holiday season, the Hinesville Police Department's uniform patrol division, C-Watch, opts to forgo a traditional Christmas gift exchange within the division. Instead, the officers use the occasion to reach out to Hinesville residents who have fallen on hard times.
