Local sorority hosts banquet

The Alpha Omicron Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa hosted its end-of-the-year banquet May 21 at Captain Joe's in Midway. The chapter honored Heather Garrido, who just completed her student teaching at Button Gwinnett Elementary School. Garrido was honored as the winner of the 2007 Alpha Omicron Student Teacher Scholarship. Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization for women educators.

Full Gospel starts women's group

The Full Gospel Tabernacle COGIC Women's Department presented its first Young Women Christian Council celebration April 29. During the conference, Sheritta Shaw was crowned Miss YWCC and Quamea Hawkes was named Miss Congeniality. The YWCC provides fellowship on a spiritual level for women of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. The YWCC often shares information on topics that pertain to women and their roles in the dual family unit, as well as single-parent family units. The YWCC meets every third Friday at Full Gospel Tabernacle. The church is at 809 Frank Cochran Drive, Hinesville.
