Benefit wreath, tree auction planned

The Marne Community Club will host a wreath and tree benefit auction from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Club Stewart. Proceeds will benefit the group's scholarships and community welfare grants. Advance tickets are $15 apiece and can be purchased at Club Stewart and Thomas Hill Jewelers or by emailing to MarneCommunityClub@hotmail.com with TICKETS in the subject line. Tickets at the door are $20 apiece. Adults only. WTOC anchor Mike Cihla will be the guest auctioneer. There will be a no-host bar and hors d'oeuvres.

Sugarcane fest rolls fun into history

Geechee Kunda Cultural Arts Center in Riceboro opened its museum and grounds to the public Saturday for the eighth annual Sugarcane Harvest and Crafts Festival. The event offered community members an opportunity to experience native art, history and culture through food, drinks, exhibits, demonstrations and performances. The Gullah-Geechee are the descendants of native Africans who were captured and brought to the Coastal Georgia as slaves.

Onions raise money for 4-H

Clifton and Linda DeLoach recently donated a truckload of Vidalia onions to the Long County 4-H Club to be sold to as a fundraiser. DeLoach, who is a Long County commissioner, said the club is always doing good deeds for the county, and he and his wife's annual donation of onions is a small way they help support the club.
