Artists capture beauty of live oaks
The Georgia coast is home to some of the country's oldest and largest live oak trees. Through the years, their snarled arms and immense size have stirred muse-like inspiration in a host of Southern painters, writers and nature lovers. On Friday night, a group of area photographers who worked diligently to capture the majestic tree's beauty showcased their oak-inspired art before a crowd at Melon Bluff Nature and Heritage Center in Sunbury.

On Feb. 14, Clayton Mobley, 6, son of Beau and Tiffany Smith of Hinesville, was crowned Little Mr. Rattlesnake Roundup 2009 during the Little Miss and Mr. Rattlesnake Roundup Pageant sponsored by the Evans County Wildlife Club in Claxton.

Club plants tree on Arbor Day
Judy Shippey, president of the Morning Glory Garden Club, and other club members planted a yoshino cherry tree in honor of the late Faye Chandler, also a longtime club member. The tree was planted at Main Street Park on Friday, which Hinesville recognized as Arbor Day. Judy Mobley gave a dedication speech, commending Chandler for her dedication to the garden club and the city of Hinesville.
