Carnival brings characters to town

Every child wishes they could have a carnival at their birthday bash, and although that might be a stretch for most parents' budgets, it was the least that could be done for military children as the 3rd Infantry Division celebrated its 91st birthday this week during Marne Week. The Courier went behind the scenes with the fourth-generation family of carneys responsible for making the festivities come to life.

Liberty law officers help deputy in need

Liberty County deputies banded together to help one of their own get through a difficult time and financial burden. Jon Glandon, a former deputy of the LCSO, discovered he had brain cancer in 2003. After a three-year remission, the cancer has returned, as did the routine visits to Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. The constant travel has created a financial burden for Glandon's family.

'Salty dogs' abound at shelter fundraiser

A standing-room only crowd packed Vann's Restaurant on Thursday night for the third annual Pouring 4 Paws fundraiser to benefit the Liberty Humane Shelter. Teams of celebrity bartenders, some dressed in outrageous costumes, served and poured, dropping their tips into a bucket for the shelter staff to tally.

Spouses club honors veterans

Members of the Fort Stewart Enlisted Spouses' Club and their families met Thursday afternoon to place wreaths at the Desert Shield/Desert Storm Monument in observance of Veterans' Day. The monument, in the wooded area in front of the post exchange, was built and dedicated in 1991 to honor those soldiers from Fort Stewart who died in battle.
