Guardsmen taking long road march for Vets Day
Master Sgt. Sean Hannes of Hinesville and 12 other soldiers with the 48th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, are going a step - actually 253,440 steps - above and beyond to show their appreciation and remembrance for the country's veterans, especially Georgia National Guard vets.
VFW post marking 50th year
VFW Post 6602 in Hinesville will celebrate 50 years of serving the needs of local veterans and their families Nov. 13. The golden anniversary award is presented to the post in recognition of 50 years of outstanding service to the community.

Smiley Elementary School had a "trunk-or-treat" day last Friday and allowed business representatives and individuals to park their cars in the school's lot and hand out Halloween candy to the students.
Faith Temple crowns Little Miss Determined
Faith Temple Ministries hosted its third annual Miss Determined Pageant on Oct. 24. The ministry and contestants said they got a lot of support from parents, sponsors and the community. This year the pageant was able to provide a scholarship to the winner of our 11th- and 12th-grade category, Lashana Howard.

Christian editor to meet with Goldenheirs

There were many wealthy plantations in Liberty County in 1860. Rice was the main crop, and the plantations were mainly along the coastal regions. Many plantation owners joined the army for the Civil War, and that left the master's wife in charge of managing the plantations.
