Boy Scout Executive addresses Rotary
Tom Cardiff, executive for the Coastal Empire Council, Boy Scouts of America, addressed the Hinesville Rotary Club at its weekly meeting on March 11. The Coastal Empire Council is comprised of 11 counties, including Liberty, where 8,500 boys are involved in scouting. Lions set sight fundraiser for March 29
Hinesville Mayor Jim Thomas and members of the Hinesville Lions Club gathered on March 6 for the signing of a White Cane Day Proclamation to benefit the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, which has been devoted to helping save the sight of Georgians for more than 50 years.
Mom prom
Scouts of Cub Scout Pack 500 recently had their first ever Mom Prom in appreciation of all the work and dedication their mothers have put into making Pack 500 as strong and productive as it can be. The boys put the prom on for their mothers in February at Hinesville First United Methodist Church.
Snelson-Golden crowns queen
Snelson-Golden Middle School had its third annual Miss SGMS pageant on Feb. 29. The pageant was created as a fundraiser by the SGMS cheerleaders to raise money for cheerleading competitions, uniforms and other events during the school year. Kiwanis Club
Members of the Liberty County Kiwanis Club met with Thomas Hall, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs during the club's Feb. 20 meeting. Hall was touring Fort Stewart. He had lunch with club members at the Youth Challenge Academy, which is run by the Georgia National Guard, on Fort Stewart. The Kiwanis meet every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. normally at Poole's Deli. Their mission is to, "Serve the children of the world."

Heritage Bank Vice President Danny Creasy is eyeing higher office, but not in Washington or even at his Main Street office. Posing as Pres. Abraham Lincoln on Saturday during the "Hamocracy in Action" Kiss-A-Pig kickoff, the Hinesville businessman will set his sights on the annual fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association.
Goldenheirs learn of YMCA
Liberty County's Goldenheirs got a lesson in the YMCA during their February meeting. Representatives of the Liberty County Armed Services Family YMCA Ambria Lanteigne, office manager/membership sirector, and Mary Gambel, RN, MSN, representative of St. Joseph's/Candler and health educator for the Y, were at the meeting. There were many wealthy plantations in Liberty County in 1860. Rice was the main crop, and the plantations were mainly along the coastal regions. Many plantation owners joined the army for the Civil War, and that left the master's wife in charge of managing the plantations.
