Spectators of all ages enjoyed Saturday's Long County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade. I know I did. From start to finish, it was a good day, a fun filled day, a day full of laughter, a day, when people, their animals, and their little children, gathered in the streets in unity to share a season of being joyful and very merry for Christmas, and to spread not just candy, but give what they had to give of themselves.

The Mighty Gospel Force of Liberty County was performing at an anniversary celebration in Savannah when the group was approached by Viola Gore, who asked them to perform at the 1st Annual Gospel Competition Program on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hardeeville, South Carolina. There were 10 or more groups performing from Georgia and South Carolina, and the Mighty Gospel Force won the competition. The manager of the group, Pamela Strickland, said, "We owe it all to The Almighty God."
Looking back and reading old diaries that were written by people in Liberty County during the awful Civil War makes me thankful for the times we have now. The Charles C. Jones family wrote letters back and forth almost every day to family members and friends. These were kept and put in book form in "The Children of Pride" by Robert Manson Myers and published in 1972. I often refer to these letters to see what was happening in Liberty County during a specific month between 1860-1868.
