Hinesville recently kicked off this year's Operation Christmas Child campaign, a project designed to help children in need around the world. First Presbyterian Christian Academy is serving as a collection point for Operation Christmas Child. Soon, with the help of local volunteers, the site will be brimming with gifts.

CASA volunteers train on databases

On Oct. 29, Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers from Liberty, Long, Bryan, McIntosh, Evans and Tattnall counties assembled in Hinesville for training on the Court Process Reporting System, a statewide database. The training, held at The Coastal Bank, was conducted by George Li of the Supreme Court of Georgia Committee on Justice for Children.

Ceremonies salute veterans

Fresh-faced ROTC cadets carefully escorted elderly veterans across a red carpet, carrying wreaths to place before the nation's flag Thursday, in observance of Veterans Day at the local VFW post in Hinesville. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6602 hosts the solemn ceremony each November on the 11 day at the 11th hour, the moment that marks armistice, the official end of World War I.

BI class fo 1960 has reunion

Bradwell Institute's class of 1960 had its 50-year class reunion Oct. 23 at the Dorchester Shooting Preserve in Midway. The celebration began with a social hour as classmates renewed old friendships and made new acquaintances. Mr. and Ms. Lamar Cook of Hinesville and their son Ryan provided the entertainment.

Churches play kickball for Manna House

Members of Full Gospel Tabernacle and New Day Outreach Ministry churches gathered for a friendly kickball game Oct. 24 to raise money for Manna House of Liberty County. Manna House is a nonprofit organization that provides food and clothing assistance for more than 50 families each week. The church members were asked to collect food items to help stock the pantry for the holidays, which is usually a busy season. Many people stepped up to the plate and offered donations.

Vigil remembers shooting victim

Orlejandro Mark Smalls' friends and relatives convened Wednesday evening in downtown Hinesville's Bradwell Park to memorialize the Walthourville man. He was gunned down last Friday by unknown assailants during a game of cards at a house on South Main Street.
