Teacher 'jailed' for fundraiser

Frank Long Elementary students collected box tops to raise money for the school. Every year students choose a goal to work toward. This year Principal Judy Hellgren would spend one second in a makeshift jail for every box top collected. The students collected 11,462 box tops. The funds will go toward such student programs as lunch bunch, honor roll rewards and behavior incentives.

Barnards celebrate golden anniversary

Bernard and Sheila Barnard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 4. The couple married in Nahunta First Baptist Church in 1963, and they have two children: Bernie Barnard Jr. and his wife Kim, who live in Pooler, and Bruce Barnard and his wife Angie, who live in Vidalia. The Barnards have five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
