Sgt. Carlos Gomez was honored during Tuesday's Rotary meeting as the Soldier of the Month for August. Gomez joined the Army in April 2002, and was assigned to Company A USAG Hunter Army Airfield as a senior parachute packer in April 2006. His short-term goal is to focus on his military career by earning the next rank of staff sergeant and he plans to be a career soldier, aiming for the top rank of command sergeant major. Center established for senior citizens

Tim Rutherford, vice president of Senior Citizens, Inc., spoke to the Rotary Club on Tuesday. The organization's mission is to assist with independent living for seniors, as well as promoting the well being of the elderly. The company recently opened the Ruth Byck Adult Day Care Center in Hinesville at the Victory Assembly of God Church. Rutherford also oversees the "Meals on Wheels" program in Savannah that makes lunch deliveries to seniors in Liberty County.
