Sugarcane fest rolls fun into history

Geechee Kunda Cultural Arts Center in Riceboro opened its museum and grounds to the public Saturday for the eighth annual Sugarcane Harvest and Crafts Festival. The event offered community members an opportunity to experience native art, history and culture through food, drinks, exhibits, demonstrations and performances. The Gullah-Geechee are the descendants of native Africans who were captured and brought to the Coastal Georgia as slaves.

Goldenheirs news

Liberty County Administrator Joey Brown and Assistant Administrator Bob Sprinkel were the featured guests at the October meeting of the Goldenheirs. Brown and Sprinkel discussed projects and proposals for Hinesville and the county. County courthouse renovations are almost complete. Parking improvements and an east-end community complex were discussed as well. Other topics included countywide fire protection, a Liberty County library and a communications tower.
