Sorority donates to Dorchester Academy

Members of local sororities, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority's Hinesville Alumnae Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's Nu Rho Omega Chapter and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority's Chi Pi Zeta Chapter recently presented a check to Dorchester Improvement Association. The donated proceeds are from a western-themed fundraiser held recently as part of Dorchester Academy's "This Place Matters" campaign.

Parade winners announced

The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 14th annual Illuminated Christmas Parade on Dec. 10 in downtown Hinesville. The theme for this year's parade was Christmas through the Decades. More than 80 floats, all covered in holiday lights, were entered, each paying tribute to a particular decade. The winners of the float competition are:

Social club donates to women's shelter

12 Ladies Social Club of Hinesville recently presented a $500 Christmas donation to the Tri-County Protective Agency women's shelter. 12 Ladies Social Club was created four years ago and is dedicated to enriching the lives of club members and community residents through sisterhood, empowerment and self awareness, which is why the 12 Ladies chose to help the women's shelter. The club has been donating to the shelter for four years.

Ludowici High School classes of 1941-1955 had their combined class reunions Sept. 25 in the Ludowici First Baptist Church Social Hall. More than 150 former students and their guests attended the celebration.

Goldenheirs learn of transit system

Rachel Hatcher from Liberty Transit met with Goldenheirs club members at their November meeting. Hatcher talked about planning, funding and the new public transit system's future plans. The buses are on a fixed route to the areas of Hinesville, Flemington and Fort Stewart. The vehicles are wheelchair-accessible.

Christmas comes to downtown Hinesville

Holiday cheer was served in cups of hot chocolate while Santa, Mrs. Claus, a team of delicate reindeer and some jolly elves personified holiday wonder Tuesday during the annual Christmas in the Park in downtown Hinesville. For the fourth consecutive year, Christmas in the Park was jointly sponsored by the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority and the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce.

Wreaths for vets in Glennville cemetery

Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery will host Wreaths Across America, a holiday wreath-laying ceremony, at noon Saturday, Dec. 11 to honor and remember the nation's veterans. The Bonaventure Society, Children of the American Revolution is coordinating the event to pay tribute to veterans of each branch of the military, the Merchant Marines, prisoners of war and those still missing in action.

Retired commander donates to vets memorial

Retired Army Lt. Gen. Glenn Webster, a former 3rd Infantry Division commander, recently donated $10,000 to Hinesville Mayor Jim Thomas, center, and George Holtzman, chairman of HMAC's Veterans Memorial Walk committee. Holtzman said he expects to receive several sizable donations in the coming weeks to help pay for the memorial to be built at Bryant Commons.
