Fire destroys diner near Glennville

A restaurant which catered to the Hispanic community in the Beards Creek area was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon.

The restaurant which had no visible name in front, was located on the 4000 block of Georgia highway 196 West near Glennville.

According to Long County Fire and Rescue Capt. Nick Maxwell, the fire was called in around 3 p.m. There were several customers in the store at the time who were able to escape without injury. Maxwell said when units from Long County, Tattnall and Liberty Counties arrived the building was engulfed in flames.  The Captain said the main building is considered a total loss, however they were able to save an adjacent building which had occupants living in it as well as the store's storage area.  Maxwell said the cuase of the fire is under investigation.

Hinesville police officers responding to a call of an unresponsive person are now conducting a homicide investigation.

According to Hinesville Police Chief Tracey Howard, officers found an unresponsive man shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday morning face down on the ground at the Royal Oaks apartment complex on the 900 block of Pineland Avenue. The man was bleeding from an apparent stab wound.

Howard said the man, identified as Gryan Devon, was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
