Do you agree with the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial?

pwatkins pwatkins: July 23, 2013 4:39 p.m.

From what I heard of the trial, it seemed that Zimmerman was responsible for Travon Martin's death and that an ill-considered decision led to that death. To me that can constitute manslaughter. However, from years of covering trials as a reporter I know a lot goes on in court that doesn't make it public, and that individuals vary widely on how they interpret testimony. So I don't question the verdict.

I agred with you. I sm career wise and veteran wise, I am a product of the Legal Community. I believe the States Attorney over-reached by charging Zimmerman with 2nd Degree murder. The elements did not sufficient enough to warrant a conviction. However; the manslaughtet charge should have been a sure conviction. The unprecidented 6 woman jury consisting of 5 whites and one hispanic was correct on tbe 2nd degree murder acquittal, but they were wrong not to convicti on the manslaughter charge. Juror B37 mindset was already made prior to going into deliberations. Because of this, it has set off a National Cry for the Department Of Justice to charge Zimmerman Federally for Civil Rights Violations. I hear so many news reporters interviewing legal experts who says that the DOJ can not and will not charge Zimmerman because race was not a facior. Because, I am a former Police Detective who investigated violent crimes against persons, and with a 95% conviction rate on arrest made, i truly believe that the DOJ will find something to charge Zimmerman with Federally. Remember Trayvon Martin committed no crime by walming home through that exclusive neighborhood. He had every right to walk home going through that neighborhood. It was a public street he was walking on. It was until Zimmerman profiled Martin because the way he was dressed, and his skin color. Hecwas advised by 911 dispatchers to remain in his vehicle in which ge refused to do. "Thiese Fu--ing Punks" ! They Always Get Away"!! A physical altercation ensued between a 29 year old Zimmerman and a 17 year old Martin, who only had a bag of Skittles Candy and a can of Arizona soft drink. Zimmerman shot and killed an unarmed 17 year old kid. He should have befn charged with manslaughter from yhe get go. But the Police Department failed misrrably and now we have set back racial harmony 100 years. The Justice System failed and now we have ravisl turmoil on our hands. The only wY now to write this wrong is for the Federal Government yo get involved and charge Zimmerman for violation of Martin's civil rights that resulted in the desth of an unarmed teenager.
