A Hinesville home was destroyed Sunday afternoon when flames raged through the structure.

The home located at 1400 Forest Lake Drive was engulfed in flames when units from the Hinesville Fire Department arrived shortly after 4:30 pm.

According to Hinesville Fire Department public information officer Capt Robert Kitchings the homeowner had gone to a supermarket when the fire began in a storage shed connected to the home.  Kitchings said the homeowner had multiple cats and dogs living in the single story wood residence when the fire began.  One dog was found alive in the rear of the home.

Sunday’s fire followed a blaze that destroyed a Gumbranch mobile home Saturday, displacing three people and killing a pet dog.

The fire, which began shortly before 11 p.m. on the 4900 block of Highway 196 West, completely destroyed the mobile home.

As firefighters from Liberty County Station 15 and Walthourville Fire Department arrived on scene the home was engulfed in flames.

When firemen opened the front door of the home to fight the interior flames, a fire ball escaped from the residence shooting flames several feet in the air.
