Visitors bureau wins statewide promotions contest

The Liberty County Convention and Visitors Bureau has won the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus Best Ideas Competition for Best Digital Campaign with a budget under $500,000.

The LCCVB submitted its entry in February and GACVB members voted during their recent annual winter meeting.

“Although we were unable to attend the actual event, we were still allowed to submit our entry, and we were thrilled to learn we won,” LCCVB CEO Leah Poole said. “This is the second year in a row that we’ve won from an entry submitted, and we’re extremely proud. It certainly gives us even more motivation to come up with great ideas to submit for next year.”

GACVB members could submit one idea for each of the five designated categories. According to the GACVB, the digital campaign constituted any digital media campaign designed to advertise the community as a convention and/or visitor destination.

This included convention sales promotion, tourism promotion, group tour promotion, sports marketing or cooperative marketing. There is only one award given out for each category based on the breakdown of their budget.

LCCVB’s entry was a Facebook contest it ran from August to December for Jacksonville Jaguars tickets. Because Jacksonville is just over an hour away, LCCVB bought ad space in the Jaguars 2016 yearbook and part of the purchase included six tickets to three home games against the Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans.

LCCVB’s digital campaign, focused on Facebook and had three separate contests for tickets. Fans commented on the post and then a winner was randomly selected from among commenters. Each winner also received two Liberty County “the right blend” baseball caps, and were asked to wear them during the game and send pictures back to the LCCVB to post on social media.

Poole said the contests increased engagement for LCCVB’s Facebook fans, and the campaign blended people’s love of football and travel into one campaign while gaining followers.

In 2016, the LCCVB won for Best Print Campaign for a budget under $500,000 for their #nofilterneeded advertising campaign, which solicited nature photos from around Liberty County. Those ads appeared in Southern Living Magazine, Food Traveler Magazine and Georgia Connector Magazine.
