The FPCA soccer squads swept Robert Toombs Christian Academy squads Tuesday. The Highlander boys won 8-0 and the girls 5-0 in the lopsided away games.

The Highlanders are coached by Tom Sukaratana and assisted by Holly Buckley and Sung Won Chi.

Undefeated to date, the Lady ’Landers are on a 16-game streak. They have outscored opponents 81-7. Frequently, the team attacks from the back, with a smooth transition from the midfield to cover defense in case of a counter attack. The versatility of FPCA’s team keeps opponents wary, unsure who will attack.

Tuesday’s win earned the Lady ’Landers their 12th shutout of the season, bringing their record to 16-0 overall and 4-0 in the region.

Contributing goals were Mercedes Buckley 2, Cecilia Graham 1, Mackenzie Buckley 1 and Auset Gibbs 1. Credited with assists were Graham 2 and Cassandra Ruff 1. Credited with the shutout is Cassandra Ruff, Madison Buckley, Mackenzie Buckley, Kasey Caines, Mary Kathryn Whitney, and Helana Scott.

The Lady Highlanders are in first in the region.

Boys

The Highlanders controlled the game from the start and rolled over their opponent.

Ausar Gibbs had a standout game, scoring a hat trick and notching two assists. Donny Phillips scored 2 goals, Shawn Caines 1, Palmer Whitney 1 and George Mitchell 1. Mitchell is credited with 2 assists, Whitney 2, and Alfred Martin 1. Keeper Matt Smith is credited with 5 saves in the shutout.

Sukaratana said the Highlanders are improving in creating scoring opportunities. The team had 32 shots on goal against Toombs. At this time, the Highlanders are fourth in the region, and this win secured a playoff spot.

Tuesday, the teams play Bulloch Academy in Statesboro for a region game. Thursday, they face region opponent Trinity Christian in Dublin. Girls begin at 4 p.m. with the boys following at 6.
