The annual golf tournament in memory of the late Henry "Hank" White was Saturday at Taylors Creek Golf Course on Fort Stewart.

In addition to a sunny day for the golfers, seven recipients of the tournament’s 2017 scholarships from Bradwell Institute, Liberty County High School, First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, and the community were recognized.

The recipients had to submit an essay and letters of recommendation that were judged by a committee. The $1,000 scholarships went to Brianna Battle, who will attend Georgia Southern; Gregory Anthony, Kennesaw State; Celine Beasley, Armstrong State; Anastasia Cray, Armstrong; Jordan Gilliard; Georgia College and State University; Zahnay Smoak, East Georgia State College; and Mary Wilson, who attends North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

The golfers and scholarship winners were welcomed by White’s son, Henry White Jr., and Derrick Taylor, tournament chairman. They thanked everyone for their continued support and allowed the scholarship recipients to introduce themselves. They also thanked the golfers.

Following the golf tournament, a meal prepared by First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church was served while the winners were announced.

First place team members were Joshua Olsen, Eddie Carr, Charlie Strickland and Emma Strickland. Second place team members were Willie Graham, Kenny Walters, Norman Loving and Mel Sanders. Third place team members were William Hall, Al Porter, Robert Porter and Ashley Fanning.

Prizes were also awarded to Charles Turner for the longest drive on hole 4, straightest drive to Bernard James on hole 13, longest putt to Charles Scott on hole 9, closest to pin to Royce Kennedy on hole 2, closest to pin to Rick Lovelady on hole 8, and closest to pin to Charlie Strickland on hole 11.

The Henry "Hank" White Memorial Scholarship Committee members said many individuals and organizations offered support to make the tournament and its scholarships possible, singling out John Fesperman at Taylors Creek.
