Liberty County High School’s top discus thrower, Enrika Tolbert, will be taking his talents to Neosho Community College in Kansas.
The senior signed his letter of intent Thursday morning in the Panther’s media center.
His mother, Heather Roberts, took a minute to soak in the fact that her son was headed to college.
“He is on a great journey of his future,” she said. “He kept telling me, ‘I’m going to get a scholarship,’ and he did it. He worked hard and I’m proud of him.”
Tolbert said it felt amazing to sign a scholarship and credited his coaches, Darryl McCulley, Keith McGee and Nathan Mimms.
“If it wasn’t for them … I really don’t know what I would do,” Tolbert said.
Tolbert’s personal best was a discus throw of 163- feet three inches. He finished third in the 2017 Georgia High School state track and field championships with a toss of 148-feet, five inches.
He said he plans to study either exercise science or engineering.
