This can be a wonderful life

Pastor's corner

POSTED: December 2, 2017 5:30 p.m.

Now that Thanksgiving Day has passed, for most people it is time to get into the Christmas spirit.

So this week my wife and I sat down to watch the Christmas movie, "It’s a Wonderful Life." In this movie the main character is able to see how wonderful his life really was, touching the lives of so many others.

We only have one life to live in order to make a difference, but for many this kind of life has not begun.

Some, I think, are waiting until later in life so they can indulge in selfish actions now. They feel like they will always have tomorrow to change their ways.

I recently heard a man tell of finding out he had pancreatic cancer just a few weeks ago, to his shock and surprise.

He is in his 60s and presumed he had several years left. But now outside of a miracle, he will be gone from this earth soon.

The Bible warns us of the fact that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. In Proverbs 27:1 we are told, "Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring."

Also in James 4:14, it states, "Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."

Having a wonderful life comes from surrendering one’s life to Jesus Christ. And the result is that through this new life lived out, we will make a difference by touching the lives of others around us.
