BRUNSWICK — The sleep management center at the Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick campus recently earned a five-year reaccreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, validating the center’s commitment to providing quality care.
“Accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine is the gold standard for excellence in centers diagnosing sleep disorders,” said C. David Sudduth, M.D., the medical director of the health system’s Sleep Management Centers. “This assures both patients and referring physicians that all testing is performed and interpreted according to well-recognized national standards.”
According to Cardiopulmonary Services Director Gerard O. Kilroy, MBA, RRT, all of the center’s sleep technologists receive training to provide the best care possible.
“The accreditation requires that the lab be managed by a physician board-certified in sleep medicine and that all physicians and testing personnel stay current on new trends in the profession,” Kilroy said.
To receive a five-year accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM.
The accreditation process involves detailed evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts and physician training.
Additionally, the facility’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine currently accredits more than 2,200 sleep medicine centers and laboratories across the country. Both the Brunswick and Camden campus sleep management centers are AASM accredited.
For more information about the sleep management center, which is located adjacent to the Brunswick campus at 3003 Kemble Ave., call 912-466-5306.
