To recognize the National School Lunch Program and the 30 million children it serves every day, Liberty County schools will recognize National School Lunch Week from Oct. 9 -13, 2017.

The theme, “Recipes for Success” is an opportunity to promote the benefits of the healthy foods that are offered daily in Liberty County schools. Different activities throughout the week will help to educate students about healthy choices that can set them up for success. Schools will have the opportunity to entice more participation by giving raffle tickets to students who eat school lunches  every day in the week of Oct. 9-13, 2017. A Junior Chef Cooking Basket containing all the tools necessary to successfully prepare a specific recipe will be raffled off at each school.

The federally-funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has provided nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students every day for over 60 years. “School lunches are healthier than ever, with more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and less fat and sodium,” said Stephanie Fox, School Nutrition Director. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about the benefits of our lunch program, and the appealing choices we offer.”

More fruits and vegetables have been incorporated into the menus and the activities of the week will promote positive changes to raise awareness to the benefits of school lunch. Additionally, to help us highlight this special week the Mayor of Hinesville, Mr. Allen Brown, signed the official proclamation proclaiming that Oct. 9 – 13, 2017 is National School Lunch Week.

The “Recipes for Success” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association. Parents and students can follow the fun using the hashtag #NSLW17. For more information on National School Lunch Week, visit
