Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Nu Rho Omega Chapter is pleased to announce the cinema screening of “Hidden Figures”, a family friendly drama that shows the strength of women who persevered through adversity at a time when their gender and race were uncommon and even unwelcomed in some places. Taraji P. Henson portrays Katherine Johnson, a remarkable black woman who played a pivotal role in NASA’s successful attempt to put the late astronaut John Glenn into orbit.

The film, which also tells the stories of fellow NASA workers including Dorothy Vaughn, played by Octavia Spencer, and Mary Jackson, played by Janelle Monae, helps to bring recognition to the important role these black women have played in history. Nu Rho Omega Chapter is helping to bring recognition to the fact that all three were members of the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Based on a book by Margot Lee Shetterly, the movie is engaging enough to be entertaining, yet informative enough to show how important its story is. Executive-produced by Pharrell Williams, who also supervised its soundtrack; the film also highlights the growing need for more representation in STEM education and gives inspiration to young girls of color, something that Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated also purposes to do.

Movie critic’s report “Hidden Figures” as being charming, smart, capable, and uncompromising — just like its subjects." Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated International President, Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson has encouraged all members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to see this movie on January 6, 2017. Nu Rho Omega Chapter, Hinesville, GA extends an invitation for the general public of Liberty County to join them for this noteworthy event on January 6, 2017 at 7:00 PM, GTC Liberty Cinema 9.
