Air Force Lt. Col. Harold D. Brown Jr. has assumed command of the 375th Operations Support Squadron at Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, Ill.
He has served in the military for 18 years.
Brown is the son of Harold D. and Bridget A. Brown, and grandson of David J. and Florida Fuller, all residents of Glennville.
His wife, Susan, is the daughter of Leroy B. and Yolanda Johnson of San Antonio, Texas.
In 1984, Brown graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly, N.J., and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1988 from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.  He earned a master’s degree in 2003 from the Air Command and Staff College, Montgomery, Ala.

Three young people with ties to our area have graduated from from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
• Air Force Airman Keri D. McIntosh, daughter of Jeff McIntosh of Allenhurst and Kim Booth of Walthourville. McIntosh is a 2005 graduate of the Bradwell Institute.
• Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Vicente P. Johnson, son of Randy and Tammy Rush of Midway. Johnson is a 2005 graduate of James Madison High School in Norcross.  
• Air Force Airman James E. Allen Jr. son of David and Marie (Allen) Mauve of Ludowici and the grandson of John and Debby Main of Midway. He is a graduate of Liberty County High School.
During the six weeks of training, the airmen studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Five young people with ties to our area have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
• Army Pvt. Yajaira T. Childers, sister of Shantale James of Hinesville. Childers is a 2003 graduate of Bradwell Institute, Hinesville.
• Army Pfc. Shemisha S. Miller, daughter of Stephanie Miller, and granddaughter of Modie Miller, both of Fleming. Miller is a 2005 graduate of Liberty County High School.
• Army National Guard Pvt. Whitney D. Miller, granddaughter of Jerline Shuman of Pembroke, and great granddaughter of Elouise Barrett of Midway. Miller is a 2006 graduate of Bryan County High School in Pembroke.
• Army Pvt. Arnesha Lewis, granddaughter of Leola Robinson of Lake Charles, La., and niece of Cassandra Paige of Hinesville. Lewis is a 2005 graduate of Bradwell Institute.
• Army Pvt. Shaniece D. Cates, daughter of Mary Beck of Mebane, N.C., and sister of Ericca Cates of Fort Stewart. The new private is a 2005 graduate of the Kittrell Job Corps Center, N.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Army Pvt. Denesia S. Howard graduated from the Food Service Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Va.
The course is designed to train service members to perform preliminary food preparation procedures according to Army production schedules and recipes; cook, bake and serve food in large and small quantities, field and garrison kitchen operations; and general operation of Army dining facilities, including cleaning and housekeeping, sanitation measures, and storage of subsistence items.
She is the daughter of Jean and Joseph Stevens of Riceboro. Her husband, Benjamin, is the son of Benjamin and Wendy Howard of Killeen, Texas.  Howard is a 2005 graduate of Liberty County High School.
