Retired Lt. Col. Buddy and Mary Thomas will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Aug. 2.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas were born a day apart and grew up in the same town for the majority of their young lives. However, it wasn’t always blissful. Not until their late high-school years at Stephens County High did they reconcile their differences and begin to date.

They were united in marriage on Aug. 2, 1964, at Sunnyside Baptist Church in Toccoa. Mr. Thomas spent 27 years in the Army, and Mrs. Thomas spent 20 years working civil service. The couple has traveled the world and have made their home in Hinesville for the past 29 years.

They were blessed with two daughters and a son-in-law, Melanie Reed and Rhonda Anderson (Bobby). They have one grandson, Matthew, who brings much joy and happiness to their lives.

They enjoy spending their time with their children, grandchild and friends, as well as relaxing at their home on a lake.

Family and friends are planning a celebration of their union from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Fleming Baptist Church fellowship hall in Midway.
