Fort Pulaski hosting children’s holiday workshops: Fort Pulaski National Monument will have children’s holiday workshops throughout the month of December.

From 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, the fort will host “Visions of Sugar Plums.” Children are invited to join park staff in making, molding and painting the holiday candy know as marzipan. Other activities include making special edible holiday ornaments for animals.

Fort Pulaski National Monument is on U.S. Highway 80, 15 miles east of Savannah. Entrance fee is $5 per person; children ages 15 and younger are free.

‘Wimpy Kid’ creator set for book festival

SAVANNAH — “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney is coming to the 2013 Savannah Book Festival.

The creator will host “Start Your Morning with Jeff Kinney” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, in the Trustees Theater, 32 Abercorn St. This program is presented by the Savannah Book Festival and the Children’s Book Festival/Live Oaks Public Libraries.

Kinney’s seventh book in the series, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel”, was the largest-selling hardcover book of 2012 with more than 6.5 million copies printed. More than 85 million “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” books are in print. Tickets are $5 apiece and go on sale Thursday at the Trustees Theater.
