Court Appointed Special Advocates is a nonprofit organization whose volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children who are involved in juvenile court proceedings.
According to state law, a CASA volunteer or Guardian Ad Litem should be appointed to each child found to be deprived by a juvenile judge. However, in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit, this is not the case due to a lack of volunteers. These children need advocates who will stand up on their behalf. Without CASA volunteers, many times these children are voiceless.
On June 22, six new CASA volunteers were sworn in by Judge Linnie L. Darden, III. The following individuals have completed their mandated training and are considered an asset to the community and the children that they serve: Alyse Fandrich, Robin Brisson, Denise Marshall, Teresa Freis, Venasta Thomas and Angela Pickens.
