Charities want old cars

For people with cars they no longer want, there are ways to get rid of them. If the car doesn’t run or needs a lot of repairs, it will be difficult to sell.
A junkyard can haul away a car, but depending on its condition, a person may receive a few dollars for a car or may get charged.
People also can donate cars to charity and receive a tax deduction of at least $500.
There are many deserving charities in the greater Savannah area that accept car donations, including Cancer Navigators and Canine Assistants. These charities are represented by Cars4Charities, which does not care what condition cars are in.
They proudly will accept cars “dead or alive,” as long as the donor has a title for the car, the car is not stripped of parts and the car is in a place where it easily can be towed.
Cars4Charities will pick up car donations quickly and free of charge. In return, donors receive a tax deduction of $500 or the amount the car is sold for, whichever is greater.
Cars4Charities also allows donations online through its website, www.cars4charities.org. The online donation option lowers expenses, enabling the organization to give more money to charities.
