In the spirit of community collaboration and teamwork taught through youth sports, Nesmith Chevrolet has developed a partnership with Liberty County Recreation Department and Fort Stewart Army Base youth leagues through the Chevy Youth Baseball program that will include both money and equipment donations during the 2008 baseball season.
Now in its third year, Chevy Youth Baseball establishes a relationship between local dealers and the communities they serve. Nesmith Chevrolet partnered with the Liberty County Recreation Department and Fort Stewart Army Base youth leagues because of the league's proximity to the dealership, Nesmith General Manager Mike Reed said. Over the course of the season, Nesmith Chevrolet will donate team equipment kits, which include bags, baseballs, ball buckets and T-shirts.
The dealership will also help donate a Chevy Tahoe SUV, which will be raffled off by participating teams, including Liberty County Recreation Department and Fort Stewart Army Base youth leagues. Team and leagues that participate in the Chevy Tahoe raffle keep 100 percent of the proceeds.
The teams will also get to participate in baseball clinics and other activities led by the Cal Ripken Baseball Group staff.
"We are looking forward to a great season with Liberty County Recreation Department and Fort Stewart Army Base youth leagues that will be filled with exciting games and an enhanced experience for the teams through the equipment donations, baseball clinics and other program components," Reed said. "Chevy Youth Baseball is just one example of how committed our dealership is to supporting the youth and families in the Hinesville community."
During the 2007 youth baseball season, more than 70 Chevrolet dealers from the Metro-Atlanta and Tampa areas helped generate close to $300,000 in donations from the dealerships and private parties. The dealers also donated $112,000 as a result of the Home Run Derby, a program conducted in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
