Couriers new online calendar gets bigger
Sites new social feature powered by City Spark

A new local and regional calendar is available on coastalcourier.com that allows visitors to find a variety of entertainment and events not only in Hinesville, but also Savannah and as far away as Macon and Hilton Head.
The calendar is under the “events” tab at the top of the site.
“We go out, by default, 50 miles. However, a user can set it up to where they go and look at events 150 miles away or even just a mile away. There’s that option for them, and they can go either wide or very small,” Courier web editor Pat Watkins said. “It’s developed by a third party, City Spark, and they have web bots that scrape other sites for events in the area.”
For example, on Monday in Hinesville, there is a Chad Crews Magic Show at the Live Oak Public Library, and on Saturday, the Miss All-Star United States Pageant comes to the Lucas Theatre in Savannah and the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon is holding “Black Holes: Space Warps and Time Twists” on Sunday.
The above are just three events listed in the new calendar, which is searchable by date, location, category and keywords.
The new calendar also allows visitors to save lists of their favorite upcoming events and share events with family and friends on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites.
The calendar also is mobile-friendly and easily readable on a smartphone or tablet. Users can create icons on phones or tablets as well. Instructions to get the link are on the calendar website.
Events can be posted on the calendar at no charge by individuals, groups and organizations. However, the calendar offers options to highlight an event to ensure the largest audience possible will see it.
“We’re trying to develop a site where if there’s something going on, it will be on our site. It’ll make it much easier for people to plan their recreation and civic life,” Watkins said. “We’ll have it all up there, from entertainment to city meetings.”
