Register early at www.active.com for the Dawn of the Zombies 5K run, which starts at 8 a.m. Oct. 18 at Holbrook Outdoor Recreation Area.

Sign-up through Aug. 31 costs $20 per person. It costs $30 until Oct. 11 is $30 and $40 the day of the race.

Service survey

An online Army MWR Services Survey, tailored to determine service and recreation needs at Hunter Army Airfield, is under way and will be available for a month.

Active duty, spouses, retirees and DoD civilians who work, live or play at Hunter are invited to take the survey at  http://bit.ly/1AXiGTE.

Responses take 10-15 minutes, are voluntary and confidential.

MWR operates facilities such as Tominac Fitness Center, golf course, outdoor recreation, School Age Services, to name a few. Child, Youth and School Services operations also are under MWR.

 

Golf course volunteers

Join other volunteers, who help keep Taylors Creek Golf Course in shape, on Aug. 18. You’ll get a gift for your support.

Volunteer nights start at 5:30 p.m. Others are scheduled for Sept 15 and Oct 20. For more information, call 767-2370.

 

Flag football

Units interested in competing in the 2014 Unit Level Flag Football Season at Stewart and Hunter should submit memos to the Bennett Sports Complex or Squires Sports Complex by Aug. 22.

There is no charge. The season begins Sept. 8, with games at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.

Movies in the Park

“Monsters University” (rated G) is the next feature in the summer outdoor movies series at Holbrook Pond Recreation Area, off Highway 144.

The free show starts at 8 p.m. Aug. 22. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. For more information, call 767-4316.

 

CG's Golf Scramble

All are invited to play in the next Commanding General’s Golf Scramble at Taylors Creek Golf Course. Players should register by Aug. 26 at the course.

The four-person scramble begins at 9 a.m. Aug. 28. The scramble is on Thursday because Labor Day weekend schedules begin the following day.

The $35 cost includes green fees, golf cart, driving range and prizes.

Top of the Rock Run

Register now for the Top of the Rock 5K and 10K Run for Resiliency, a chipped race that is open to the public.

The run will have 10 age categories for men and women, plus a 10K team competition for soldiers with a minimum of 10 members from the same company.

All participants will get T-shirts. Trophies will be awarded.

Register online at www.ACTIVE.com by Sept. 3. Team pre-registration ends Sept. 4.

The run begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 6 between Newman Fitness Center and the Quick Track. The cost to register before event is $25 for DoD ID cardholders and $30 for civilians. Day-of-race registration fee is $40.

Body building

Early registration is under way for The Rock Body Building and Figure Contest Nov. 1 at Woodruff Theater on Fort Stewart.

Weigh-in will be at 8 a.m., prejudging at10 and the finals at 6:30 p.m.

The cost until Oct. 17 is $25. Later it is $35. There is an additional crossover fee of $15. Sign up at Newman Fitness Center. 

Awards will be presented seven age and experience groups.

Bend-the-Bar

Registration is under way for the Stewart/Hunter “Bend-the-Bar” Powerlifting and Bench Press Challenge 4thIBCT Fitness Center on Sept. 20.

The competition is open to men and women in 12 weight classes. Participants must be at least 16.

Winners will be determined by weight classes. Each participant will get three attempts to lift their maximum weight. Winners must have a successful lift in each event.

Weigh-ins will be from 8-9:30 a.m. Rules clinic will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the competition begins at 10 a.m.

T-shirts will be given to participant and prizes will be awarded in all weight classes.

Entry fee is $15 per person until Sept. 15 and $20 later.

Babysitting course

Teens (13-18) can become certified babysitters at the SKIES CYSSitter Teenage Babysitter Course from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 16, 23.

The free course will be at SKIES Unlimited, across from Diamond Elementary.

Participants must attend both days to be certified. A minimum of five students is needed. Register at CYSS Parent Central Services.
