The members of the newly organized and rapidly growing East Liberty County American Legion Post 321 will host these upcoming events:
Saturday fish fry
The public is invited to the post's first Fish Fry from 3-6 p.m. Saturday Jan. 27 at the Midway Museum on the corner of North Coastal Highway and Martin Road in Midway. The cost is $5 for a plate of fried fish, coleslaw and hush puppies. Cold drinks will also be available. The proceeds from this event will enable the post to assist veterans, the community and, now with the 3rd ID deploying overseas once more, the post will be in a position to assist the family members left behind. For more information, call Darryl Woodard at 884-7480 or A.J. Schmitt at 884-1730.

Flag disposal ceremony
The post invites the public to its upcoming "dignified flag disposal ceremony" for numerous American Flags that have been duly retired from active service. Based on U.S. Flag Code, the burning of unserviceable American Flags is the desirable method. This ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday Jan. 27 and is being held at the Midway Museum. American Flags have been received from the fire departments in Midway and Riceboro, from the city halls of both communities as well as from numerous people who desire to properly dispose of old unserviceable flags. For more information or if you have a flag you desire to dispose of, call Cmdr. Fitzgerald at 884-2830 or Jeff Bowen at 884-6151.

Post meeting
All current post members, veterans desiring to become members (this also includes all who are presently serving on active duty, in the Reserve or Guard) as well as their families are invited to attend the post meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 1. The meeting will be at Holton’s Seafood Restaurant in Midway. At this meeting the post’s projects will be mapped out for the next six months and all members should be there to submit and discuss their ideas. For more information or if you need to arrange for a ride to the meeting or any of the functions, call Cmdr. Fitzgerald at 884-2830, FO A.J. Schmitt at 884-1730 or Adjutant Woodard at 884-7480.
