Pastor Willia Mae Wesley started out in ministry with her husband, and continued the ministry after his death.
“We started in 1976 at the Fort Stewart Heritage Chapel with a Monday evening prayer fellowship,” she said.
Wesley, 73, is the pastor of Victory Faith Fellowship on Oglethorpe Highway, across from Shoney’s Restaurant in Flemington. The church was established in 1992, and Wesley became its pastor in 1993.
A native of Alabama, Wesley moved to Hinesville with her late husband, George E. Wesley. After his retirement from the military, they remained in the area and served as co-pastors of the church until his death.
“I never thought I would do it by myself,” Wesley said.
“I enjoy and love people. Ministry is a joy. You must enjoy Jesus and realize you are an instrument He is using,” the pastor said. “I enjoy teaching and expounding on the Word. I am blessed when I see souls saved and lives brought back and put on track.”
The church is experiencing spiritual growth.
“When one soul is set free, that person can go out and touch many others,” Wesley said.
She said she has seen her four children brought back from the point of death, and the healing and deliverance that has occurred in their lives.
“They have caught the vision of Jesus Christ,” she said.
Victory Faith Fellowship is a mixed-culture congregation, and has a mission outreach, youth ministry, and men and women’s ministries. The co-pastor is Renate Howard.
“We reach out to the youths with a tutorial program,” Wesley said.
Members evangelize individually in the community and in the workplace.
Wesley credits Emmanuel Dargbadzi of Africa and Benny Hinn with encouraging and serving as sources of inspiration.
“Dargbadzi taught me to be diligent and know that God is a rewarder of them who diligently seek him,” she said.
“Ministry is the greatest adventure of my life. I pray I finish the mission that has been assigned to me. This mission is a love mission,” she said.
Wesley is a 1994 retiree of the Fort Stewart Army and Air Force Exchange. She currently serves on the board of the Fraser Counseling Center and is a member of the Liberty County United Ministerial Alliance.
She is the proud mother of four children, 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She enjoys traveling, reading, and cooking.
“I traveled extensively when my husband was in the military and have gone back to Germany several times. I have also been to Israel twice,” she said.
